Wendy Makortoff, RMT and Owner

Wendy Makortoff has been a Registered Massage Practitioner since 1995 and has additional training in
cranio-sacral massage, prenatal massage, and techniques in treating sleep disorders. Opening Silver Birch Clinic has been her way of making accessible to her community, the healing and revitalizing benefits that massage therapy, esthetics and spa treatments can offer.
When she’s not busy running the clinic, Wendy enjoys relaxing with her wonderful kids and exploring new and fun activities throughout British Columbia.

Lara Podmorow, RMT

Lara Podmorow has been a Registered Massage Practitioner since 1996, with specialized training in prenatal massage, sports injury massage and the treatment of muscular-skeletal problems. Her reputation as one of this area’s most highly trained and effective therapists makes booking 2 weeks in advance a necessity if you want to be treated.
When Lara’s not at the clinic, she can be found spending quality time with her family or working hard to keep healthy through staying active and nutritional eating.

Crystal Gesualdo, CE

Crystal Gesualdo has been a certified massage professional since 2005. She graduated Florida Academy of Massage in addition to completing her Certification in prenatal massage, hot stone massage, aromatherapy and reflexology.  She has also recently passed her certification in manicures and pedicures.  She has been working in the health and wellness industry for over 10 years and believes in the therapeutic as well as physical benefits of massage treatments. Crystal enjoys spending her spare time site seeing in the beautiful outdoors of British Columbia, with her loving husband.

Sewken Kaur, CTT, SP                   

Sewken began helping her mom out with her spa business back in India when she was only 14 years old. Her love for aesthetics grew quickly and she began to practice the art of henna tattooing, which has since become a passion of hers. She moved to the Castlegar area about three years ago and took her official aesthetics training right away. She loves meeting new people through the industry and believes that her profession allows her the chance to provide both a relaxing and pleasant experience for her clients. Being a henna artist for the past six years, Sewken - better known as Sev - has a deep love for creative design, she also enjoys travel and exploring all the world has to offer.

Alana Henne, LCC, CE 

Alana was born and raised here in the West Kootenays and is a certified cosmetologist. She graduated with honors from Marvel Beauty School of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where she learned advanced training in hair styling, makeup artistry, and basic aesthetics. It is there where her love of the industry began. She also recently graduated from MC College of Kelowna, BC with an advanced hair removal certificate. Alana has a true passion for art that can be seen throughout her work - whether it's the detail in her updos or her on-point brows, you will always get a little taste of her magic. If she's not in the spa, she is either out getting her hands dirty in the garden or adventuring throughout the surrounding mountains. Alana is thrilled to be back in the beauty industry and to bring a bit of her flair back to the Kootenays.

Lorraine Ballantine, BA, RCST


Lorraine Ballantine is an experienced Biodynamic Craniosacral therapist who is certified and registered
with The Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Association of North America. She has 35 years of experience working with all ages in the fields of: Counselling, Teaching, Pilates, Fostering, and Biodynamic Craniosacral therapy. Lorraine specializes in treating clients who are seeking deep healing, pain relief, and gentle trauma recovery of all kinds whether physical or emotional. This quiet, deep therapy restores the whole system which includes the nervous system. Lorraine spends any spare time with her new precious grandson who is a pure joy to be with!

Genevieve Gladu, RMT


Genevieve is a new graduate from the Registered Massage Therapy program and KCCIHS. Throughout her studies in Nelson, Genevieve received in depth training in myofascial release, Swedish massage, deep tissue, trigger point release and joint mobilization. She also has clinical practice hours both in inreach and outreach clinics, with experience in post operative rehabilitation, body/tension relief and other hands on skills. Genevieve's goal as a therapist is to facilitate well-being and healing by listening to each client's specific needs and inviting them to be an active part of the journey.

When she isn't working, Genevieve practices in yoga and meditation, hiking, cycling and fishing. She feels absolutely honoured to be apart of this type of work.

Amber Deems, RMT


Amber is a recent graduate of the RMT Program of KCCIHS in Nelson, B.C. Through her studies, she developed extensive training in Swedish, trigger point, and myofascial release and joint mobilization techniques. Above all, Amber gained a solid understanding of various conditions as well as how to treat them in a safe and effective manner. Working with a variety of populations at the student clinic and outreach programs allowed Amber to developed her own holistic approach to treatments. Her goal is to support each client along their path of wellness and do so in a nurturing way by using a customized approach to treatment that is dependent on individual needs. Amber feels very fortunate to be able to do the work she is so passionate about. 

In her spare time, Amber enjoys exploring the Kootenays with her family and is always looking for new ways to grow and develop both personally as well as in her profession as a massage therapist.
